Outreach Ministry at Homestead Park United Methodist Church is the umbrella for the different ministries
1. Homeless Ministry:
We pack approximately forty to fifty lunches every Saturday morning at 9:30. The lunch consists of two sandwiches, a pastry, fruit, a bottle of water and sometimes a small “Gospel of John” pamphlet. (Matthew 25:35)
2. Hospital and Nursing Home Ministry:
Once a month several teams of volunteers take communion to residents and conduct a short service. We visit other times as needed.
Atria, Arden Court, Lawson and Eldercrest are the nursing homes we visit on a regular basis.
3. Greeting Card Ministry:
A group of volunteers take turns sending greeting cards to our shut-ins and members that are hospitalized. (Hebrews 10:24)
4. Away From Home Ministry:
The Military and College students are encouraged with gifts and cards to let them know we care when they are away from friends and family. (Hebrews 13:16)
5. Crochet Club:
We meet every Friday afternoon at 1:00 in the Prayer room to crochet afghans for folks in Nursing homes. After we accumulate approximately 50 afghans they are blessed by the Pastor and taken to a nursing home (usually at Christmas time). Every afghan is tagged with a scripture verse from Romans 10:9
6. Bread and Pastry Ministry:
Every Sunday evening volunteers take turns picking up leftovers at a local bakery. They are brought back to church where they are packaged and made available to anyone for a small donation. Whatever is leftover is taken to 8th Avenue Ministries and distributed to the needy. (Matthew 25:35)
7. Sponsor a Child Ministry:
The dollar a month ministry supports two third world children through Compassion International. (Mark 10:16)
8. H.E.L.P.S. Ministry:
Helping Everyone Loving People Spiritually.
We show our love by being servants to those in need of small repairs, grass cutting, moving, etc. (John 12:26)
9. Shoe Box Ministry:
Once a year we support Franklin Graham’s “Samaritan’s Purse” outreach to poor children all over the World by filling shoe boxes with toys, crayons, coloring books etc. Some of these children never have received a gift of some kind. Homestead Park United Methodist Church is the relay center or drop off for other organizations that have filled shoeboxes. One of our members who owns a tour bus transports hundreds of these gift boxes to Greensburg. They are transferred to tractor trailers and shipped to North Carolina before their final worldwide distribution. Many members are involved in this worthwhile ministry. The last gift placed in each box is a gospel in their own language. (Matthew 28:19)
10. Missions:
The outreach team feels it is a very important to support those who choose to carry the Gospel to unchurched nations. We support several missionaries. (Matthew 28:19)
11. Food and Finance:
Outreach has set aside a fund to assist members who have fallen on hard times. In the book of Acts (Acts 2) the idea of helping one another as a church body was established. Every need is keep confidential.
*The outreach Ministry is honored to be God’s hands and feet in our community. We are happy to accept all donations to help us continue doing God’s work. A notation “Outreach” will send your donation to us.
Blessing To All, Vern Piscitell
